डीआईजी वरिष्ठ पुलिस अधीक्षक दलीप सिंह कुंवर ने बताया कि बीते 4 मार्च को भण्डारी बाग क्षेत्र में अकेले रहने वाली एक वृद्ध महिला कमलेश धवन की अज्ञात बदमाशों द्वारा चाकू से गला रेतकर हत्या कर दी गयी थी। मामले में पुलिस ने मृतका की बेटी की तहरीर पर मुकदमा दर्ज कर हत्यारोपियों की तलाश शुरू कर दी गयी। हत्यारों की तलाश में जुटी पुलिस टीम को सीसी कैमरें खंगालने पर पता चला कि हत्या वाली रात एक संदिग्ध व्यक्ति मृतका के घर के पास से जाता हुआ दिखायी दिया। जिस पर पुलिस ने उसकी खोजबीन की तो पता चला कि उसका नाम महेन्द्र सिंह मेहता पुत्र स्व. आनन्द सिंह मेहता निवासी अल्मोड़ा व हाल टीएचडीसी कालोनी है। जिस पर पुलिस ने उसे हिरासत में लेकर पूछताछ शुरू कर दी गयी। हत्यारोपी महेन्द्र सिंह ने पूछताछ में बताया कि वह पहले एक स्थानीय होटल में बतौर मैनेजर नौकरी किया करता था। कोरोना काल के दौरान उसकी नौकरी छूट गयी और वह नशे का आदी हो गया। जिस कारण मेरी पत्नी व बच्चा भी मुझे छोड़कर चले गये। जिसके बाद मैं अपनी मुंहबोली बहन के साथ टीएचडीसी कालोनी में रहने लगा। बताया कि पैसों की तंगी रहने के दौरान मुझे पता चला कि मुस्लिम कालोनी के पास एक वृद्ध अमीर महिला अकेली रहती है। जिस पर मैने उसे लूटने की योजना बनाकर अपने साथ चाकू लेकर 4 मार्च को उसके घर आया और लूट के दौरान विरोध करने पर उसकी गला रेतकर हत्या कर दी। पुलिस ने हत्यारोपी महेन्द्र की निशानदेही पर हत्या में प्रयुक्त चाकू, लूटे गये 1670 रूपये की नगदी, हत्या वाले दिन पहने कपड़े व एक पर्स भी बरामद किया गया है।
