हल्द्वानी। हिन्दी सिनेमा जगत के पहले सुपर स्टारः ट्रेजेडी किंग दिलीप कुमार नहीं रहे। अपने संजीदा और भवपूर्ण अभिनय से दर्शकों के दिलों पर दशकों तक राज करने वाले दिलीप साहेब ने हिंदी सिनेमा को एक से बढ़कर एक फिल्में दीं। 1958 में आई मधुमती उनकी एक ऐसी ही नायाब फिल्म है। तब फिल्म की शूटिंग के लिए पूरा क्रू नैनीताल पहुंचा था। वह नैनीताल के लिए भी बेहद खास मौका था। पहली बार नैनीताल में बिग बजट और बेहतरीन कलाकारों से सजी फिल्घ्म शूट हो रही थी।
विख्यात निर्देशक विमल रॉय निर्देशित फिल्म रिलीज के साथ ही बिग हिट साबित हुई। फिल्म ने बीते सारे रिकार्ड ध्वस्त कर दिए। मधुमती 37 सालों तक सर्वाधिक फिल्मफेयर जीतने वाली फिल्म बनी रही। हालांकि बाद में डीडीएलजी ने इस रिकॉर्ड को तोड़ दिया। नैनीताल के रंगकर्मी सुरेश गुरुरानी बताते हैं कि शूटिंग के दौरान दिलीप कुमार मल्लीताल में आयोजित एक महफिल में शामिल हुए। वह करीब तीन घंटे तक मौजूद रहे और महफिल का जमकर लुत्फ उठाया। प्रसिद्ध रंगकर्मी जहूर आलम कहते हैं फिल्म मधुमति का गीत चढ़ गयो पापी बिछुवा…की कोरियोग्राफी टीम में प्रसिद्ध रंगकर्मी मोहन उप्रेती भी शामिल रहे। यही वजह है कि फिल्म के इस गीत का पूरा फिल्मांकन पहाड़ी तर्ज पर किया गया। मधुमति उस दौर की सबसे हिट फिल्म थी।
फिल्म में दिलीप कुमार के साथ बैजयंती माला, जॉनी वॉकर और प्राण ने भी संजीदा अभिनय किया है। इस फिल्म ने उस दौर में चार करोड़ का ग्रॉस कलेक्शन किया था। मधुमती फिल्म की ज्यादातर शूटिंग नैनीताल, रानीखेत, घोड़ाखाल, वैतरणा डैम में हुई थी। मधुमती पुनर्जन्म पर आधारित हिंदी सिनेमा की पहली फिल्म थी। ऐसे में फिल्म की शूटिंग के लिए विमल दा को सबसे बेस्ट लोकेशन उत्तराखंड के पहाड़ की वादियां ही लगी। तब फिल्म की शूटिंग के दौरान, विमल दा और दिलीप साहेब यहां के स्थानीय लोगों से भी मिलते थे। मधुमती से पहले बिमल रॉय ने दिलीप कुमार और वैजयंती माला के साथ ’देवदास’ बनायी थी, जो 1955 में रिलीज हुई थी। शराब में बर्बाद आशिक देवदास की इस कहानी ने बिमल दा को भी बर्बाद कर दिया था।
